Sarah Earl

YMCA Greater Toronto
Director, Program Research and Development
Toronto, Ontario
For almost 20 years, Sarah Earl has committed to a career in evaluation because, when used strategically, she has seen how its process and findings can contribute to profound organizational and social change. She works to make it a middle ground where creativity and evidence meet. At the YMCA of Greater Toronto, Sarah is heading initiatives to grow the association's evaluation culture, capacities, and systems using a learning and values-based approach. Currently, she is leading developmental evaluations with youth programs and evaluating social enterprise initiatives aimed at improving Y members' health and well-being. At the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Sarah developed innovative ways to measure how development assistance affects the communities involved and supported evaluation field building in the global South. Sarah is a co-creator of outcome mapping, a method that evaluates the results of development work on people and organizations – the real facilitators of change.
