In this workshop, Pathways to Education will showcase its new interactive mapping tool - a key component of its approach to program expansion and improvement, partner engagement, and community knowledge. By providing insights into educational attainment rates, poverty trends, and other indicators throughout Canada, the new data visualization tool is helping the organization build a thoughtful and demand-driven expansion strategy and ensure effective program offerings, multi-stakeholder collaboration, and greater issue awareness. Session participants will learn how the mapping tool is helping Pathways to Education understand unique socio-demographic contexts of existing and potential program sites, and how this type of tool can benefit other Canadian nonprofits, foundations, and the general public.

This session will also outline the challenges inherent in working with big data and highlight key insights gained from the project. The presenters will share specific examples of how the tool has already helped to spark conversations and raise awareness about the barriers and solutions facing at-risk youth and communities throughout Canada.
